What you will do:
This position is part of the Renewable Generation Assets platform, within the Engineering Technology and Energy Assessment Centre of Excellence (a team of more than 100 professionals). The Grid Transmission, Integration and Analysis unit currently consists of 2 specialists.
Reporting directly to the Engineering, Technology and Energy Assessment Executive Director—who reports to the EDP Group Management Team— this is a high-visibility role with significant exposure to senior leadership.
We are looking for a highly experienced Electrical / Energy Renewable Engineer to lead efforts in grid analysis, curtailment mitigation, and renewable energy integration. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of renewable energy assets within (but not limited to) EU, BR and US regulatory frameworks. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in power systems, international experience, preferably in multinational companies within the sector, and recognized collaborative skills.
General responsibilities:
- Conduct grid impact studies, including load flow, stability, and curtailment analysis for solar, wind, and hybrid renewable projects.
- Identify and address grid constraints that lead to curtailment, working with utilities, TSOs, and ISOs/RTOs to implement solutions.
- Support interconnection applications and ensure compliance with EU grid codes (e.g., ENTSO-E standards) and US regulations (e.g., FERC Orders 2222 & 841, NERC reliability standards).
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to optimize renewable energy dispatch, storage integration, and grid flexibility.
- Analyse real-time and historical curtailment data to inform operational strategies and investment decisions.
- Contribute to grid modernization initiatives, including smart grid technologies, digital substations, and demand-side management.
- Prepare technical documentation for regulatory filings, grid compliance reports, and stakeholder presentations.

What are we looking for:
- Academic Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical / Renewables Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
- A master’s degree in any of the aforementioned fields will be highly valued.
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience, of which 5 must be in grid analysis (simulation, network behavior, evacuation, bottlenecks, etc.), preferably within the renewable energy sector.
- Experience with energy storage systems, hybrid plants, or virtual power plants.
- Knowledge of energy market operations, forecasting, and flexibility services.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, grid integration challenges, and curtailment dynamics.
- Familiarity with EU directives (e.g., Renewable Energy Directive, Electricity Market Design) and US regulatory frameworks (e.g., FERC, NERC).
- Experience working with ISOs/RTOs and TSOs in both regions.
- Specific Knowledge:
- Programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and automation.
- Proficiency in simulation tools such as PSS(R)E and/or DIgSILENT, PowerFactory.
- Languages:
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese will be highly valued.
- Skills:
- Excellent in analytical, Communication and Project management skills.
