What you will do

Role Overview:

The Associate Director of New Development Initiatives manages and oversees the greenfield prospecting and GIS teams to identify new greenfield wind, solar, and storage project opportunities based on the business needs of the regions and in coordination with the regional development teams.  In addition, the Associate Director will also work directly with the Digital and GIS teams to develop tools to further optimize greenfield prospecting and development of projects focusing on advancing digitalization and automation in the greenfield and development processes consistent with the Company’s business plan, practices, and principles. 

Main responsibilities:

Manage Greenfield Leads in each region to identify suitable wind, solar and energy storage sites with suitable market, resource and electric transmission access and advance prospects into pipeline projects
Development and execution of strategic plans for greenfield prospecting in conjunction with Greenfield Leads for each region, Regional Development Directors, and relative teams
Coordinate with Greenfield Leads for each region, Development Directors, and Regional EVPs on overall development pipeline strategy and quarterly reviews of said strategy with a particular focus on greenfield strategy
Manage and perform landowner and community outreach strategies to assess the viability of prospective greenfield sites
Procure and review Transmission System Impact and Power Flow studies performed by the internal Transmission team and third parties to support greenfield prospecting
Coordinate with the GIS team to develop and/or procure proprietary tools to assist in greenfield development and coordinate with the corporate Digital team to provide guidance on the development of AI and automated tools for the global development teams.
Manage environmental and permitting fatal flaw analysis for greenfield prospects in coordination with Greenfield Leads for each region, according to the established EDPR stage gate process
Reviews and analyzes project financial models to generate prioritization for greenfield prospects
Coordinate with Greenfield Leads for each region, Development Directors, and Regional EVPs to progress focused greenfield development for transition of prospects  to the Regional Development teams to mature such prospects to Tier 3 pipeline projects
Provide input to the development budget for greenfield prospecting in coordination with Internal PMs, Greenfield Leads for each region, Development Directors, and Regional EVPs
Manage the work of internal staff, including the GIS team, Project Managers, Project Developers, and members of supporting departments. Foster the growth of and sponsor the training of New Development Initiatives and GIS team members
Conduct and manage all work in a timely manner to ensure that critical deadlines are met
Communicate effectively with team members and colleagues to ensure that any potential delays are identified and managed early
Manage third-party consultant engagements to support greenfield prospecting and development
Additional duties as required

What are we looking for

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • 3- 5 years experience working with a variety of stakeholders in the renewable energy industry, including financial investors, equipment manufacturers, wholesale electricity customers, and consultants; Demonstrated success developing greenfield wind energy projects; Demonstrated success managing multi-disciplinary teams and staff to develop large-scale power projects in various environments and permitting regimes through the full project development lifecycle
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. (Preferred)

Travel:

Up to 25%, may require international travel

  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary and per company standards
