EDPR Australia has a presence in NSW, ACT, QLD and WA and combines our strong local presence with regional and global expertise. You will be working in the Canberra office with a mid-sized team of engineers, project managers and executives, and under the tutelage of our in-house Legal Counsel.
Job description
We need a motivated law student or recent graduate to provide casual/part-time support to our Legal Counsel and act as an office all-rounder to keep on top of administrative tasks and elevate the efficiency of the business. While the role will include secretarial and administrative work like filing, collecting signatures, and making phone calls, there will be additional duties to give you some legal and business experience including policy writing, interpreting contracts, drafting legal letters, researching case law and statute, and corporate governance compliance.
While our legal resources do not compare to a private practice law firm, you will be exposed to a wide variety of legal practice areas, namely contract, property, employment, corporations, business, trust and tax law.
Responsibilities
- Maintain documents in paper and electronic filing systems.
- Conduct legal research and provide concise summaries in plain English.
- Draft, proofread and collate documents and correspondence.
- Make photocopies/scans and run errands.
- Attend meetings and take minutes.
- Take calls, make calls, write and deliver messages.
- Plan and implement office and social events.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of business processes and stakeholder information.
Skills and qualifications
Either:
currently undertaking or recently completed a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor; or
at least 1-2 years’ experience as a legal assistant or paralegal.
A love of order and organisation.
Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office suite.
Strong command of the English language and excellent written and verbal communication.
Willingness to take initiative and learn new things with some level of autonomy.
